Scenic, Serene Illinois

December 18, 2009

This picture was taken between Elizabeth and Galena, Ill. It was such a serene view and I couldn’t resist sneaking a photo of it. The rolling hills, the beautiful colors and the bright red buildings are so picturesque and I couldn’t help but feel a little more peaceful as I drove away.

How great would it be to wake up with that view every day?

Afternoon Grazing

December 10, 2009

These horses were taking advantage of the clear beautiful day, grazing in a field around Woodbine, Ill. (near Galena). It  was such a beautiful, picturesque scene that I had to stop and take a few pictures. This photo often reminds me to take time to notice what’s going on around you, to appreciate the natural beauty and simple things in life.

Hogs, Tattoos and Foods

October 13, 2009
Poopy's Backyard Bar AreaThese pictures were taken over Labor Day weekend this year. If you own a Harley, or any motorcycle for that matter, you probably have been to, or heard of, Poopy’s Pub ‘N Grub in Savanna, Illinois.  It’s Illinois’ biggest biker destination and offers live entertainment, great food, Harley products, Harley parts/accessories and tattoos all in one spot! They have a great outdoor area where you can eat and listen to live entertainment. They even offer free tent camping onsite. If you dare, try the “Big Poop.” It’s a one pound burger. It can be done!

EcoGrove Wind Farm

September 4, 2009
DSC_0299blog

EcoGrove Wind Farm, Acconia, Ill.

Near my home town, Acciona recently started the “EcoGrove Wind Farm” in a rural area of northwest Illinois. Over the past year or two, dozens of these turbines were constructed across miles of land in this region and, because of their size, can be seen for miles.

With these massive wind turbines came much debate among members of the community; there were a number of arguments for and against this project. Are these wind turbines an eye sore, merely ruining the picturesque landscape of NW Illinois? Or are they a beautiful picture of social responsibility and an innovative way to conserve resources for our future generations?

You can decide…but I can tell you this: they are neat to see from a distance and pretty amazing when you’re only yards away. It was really incredible to photograph these massive structures, sitting in the middle of a small farming community. They are quite a site no matter what opinion you hold.
