No one is quite sure why, but for the last several years, Springfield has become a waypoint for tens of thousands of migrating geese making their way back north.

The snow, blue and Ross’s geese typically show up in Illinois in late February and stay for a few days.  We didn’t get a chance to see them on Lake Springfield, but we live nearby and watched as they blanketed the sky for several days.  It was a pretty amazing sight.  There’s a link to a great video below.  It isn’t ‘embed-able’, but is definitely worth a look.
